Talkie is a companion app for movies and TV that lets you read and post comments pinned to moments in a film or episode. This policy explains what information Talkie collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. Questions? Email support@gettalkie.app.
The short version
- You can browse without an account. An account is only needed to post, report, or block.
- Your username and comments are public. Everything else stays private.
- No ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, and we never sell your information.
- You can delete your account and everything you've posted at any time from inside the app.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and an account identifier from that provider. If you sign in with Google, we also receive the name and profile photo link on your Google account; these aren't shown in Talkie. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email," we receive a private relay address instead. We don't receive your Apple or Google password.
Content you create
- Username — chosen by you and shown publicly next to your comments.
- Comments — the text, the movie or episode, the moment in it you commented on, and when you posted.
- Reports — the comment you reported, the reason, and any details you add.
- Blocks — the users you've blocked.
- Terms agreement — when you agreed to the Terms of Service.
Crash and diagnostic data
If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report so we can fix the problem. Reports include technical details such as the error, your device model, operating system, and app version, a random identifier for the app installation, and an approximate location (country or city) derived from your IP address. Crash reports don't include your name, email, username, or account ID, and your IP address isn't stored.
Technical information
Like any internet service, our servers receive your IP address when the app connects. We use it only temporarily to limit abuse (for example, rate limiting how often comments can be posted) and don't store it. Our hosting providers may keep standard server logs for security and reliability.
Information stored on your device
The app stores your sign-in session securely on your device so you stay signed in, and remembers whether you've seen the introduction screens.
When you contact us
If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and keep that correspondence to help you.
How we use information
- To run Talkie: sign you in, show your comments, and apply your blocks.
- To keep Talkie safe: review reports, hide or remove content that breaks our Terms, and suspend accounts.
- To fix bugs and crashes.
- To respond to your support requests.
What's public
Your username and comments can be seen by anyone using Talkie, including people who aren't signed in. Don't include personal information in comments or your username.
Service providers
We don't sell or share your information for advertising. We use a small number of providers to run Talkie, and they process data only on our behalf:
- Supabase — account sign-in and database hosting.
- Apple and Google — sign-in, if you choose to use them.
- Sentry — crash and error reports.
- Our server hosting provider — runs the Talkie API.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and routes support email.
- Google (Gmail) — where support email is read.
- TMDB (The Movie Database) — movie and TV information and images. Poster and image files load directly from TMDB's servers, so TMDB receives your IP address when images load. We don't send TMDB any account information.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and content until you delete them. When you delete your account, your account, username, comments, reports you've made, and blocks are deleted. Copies may remain in backups for a short period before they're overwritten. Crash reports are kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically by Sentry.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account anytime in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account.
- Delete a comment you posted using the trash icon on the comment.
- Change your username on the Profile tab.
- To request a copy of your information or ask any privacy question, email support@gettalkie.app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law; we'll honor them.
Children
Talkie is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable providers to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Where information is processed
Talkie is operated from the United States, and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app when appropriate.
